❪ FEBRUARY 2018 UNAFFILIATED QUESTS ❫

Amidst the two biggest factions trying to influence the future of El Nysa, other groups move in the shadows or walk in the light. In Olympia, Overseer Voss of the Temples of Thesa pursues his own agenda to preserve the light of the Goddess, while in Wyver, the mysterious gang leader Cree seeks to expose the supposed treachery of the people in power.

Can you really believe everything you hear?

QUICK N' DIRTY FAQ
How do I complete a quest? For the most part, all you need to do is a link to your (AC length) quest thread under the appropriate heading! Some quests require signing up beforehand in order to receive additional information, so read the requirements carefully.

Can I sign up for more than one quest at once? Yes and no! If a quest has limited slots, please refrain from signing up for more than one at a time in order to give everyone an even chance. Otherwise, you may thread all the quests you want. Cree and Voss' quests are separate, so signing up for one from each at the same time is fine.

What makes my quest complete? In order to obtain the silver reward and any other information for each quest, you must submit an AC length thread under the correct quest heading in the comments below. If you sign up for a quest and fail to submit a thread, it will be considered incomplete and someone else may sign up.

For a group thread only, AC length is considered 10+ total comments as a whole, rather than 5 per character. If a character is not actively participating, they will not be considered for the reward!

Do I get REP from this? Not exactly! Cree and Voss are unaffiliated with Olympia or Wyver, faction-wise, so helping them will not get you Olympia or Wyver REP. It will get you custom benefits from either/both of them, however. Reaching 10 REP with either faction does not impact your ability to take quests.

When do quests have to be "done"? Typically, a quest that is time-sensitive will be "due" - meaning an AC length thread must be submitted, not necessarily a complete log - by the end of the given availability period. This is usually the end of the month! However, if you sign up for a quest with a time-sensitive due date very close to said date, we'll be flexible and let you know when to get a response in. Quests that do not have a time-sensitive due date are obviously not "due" within a given time frame.

Can I play the other side of these criminal quests? Will I get anything out of it? Yes and sort of! If you would like your character to discover these quests and oppose what is taking place, for example: a member of the guard stopping a smuggling job, you may. However, they will not receive positive recognition from the NPCs putting out these quests or special recognition from others, as it is already expected of them or just another regular occurrence of vigilante justice. We encourage plotting with quest takers solely for the experience of threading that interaction out.

Please list all involved characters under the sign ups thread so we know what's going on! If you have any questions about what kind of opposing actions can be taken, ask us! Keep in mind that these oppositions would follow the same rule as quest success: if there is not an AC length thread submitted, it didn't happen.

REQUESTS FROM THE TEMPLES OF THESA

Overseer Voss entreats Olympian citizens and all refugees to aid him in the various tasks of interest to the Temples. He announces his tasks both in written form, found around the city, and over the speaker in the Temples. ICly, signups and report submission will be done in an office on the first floor of the Temples (this interaction will be handwaved).
Quest: A Day in the Life: Take Two
Description: After January's investigations of the Guard and of various well-known Olympians, Overseer Voss believes he has enough evidence to seriously accuse several bigger Olympian names of outright corruption. And as he himself is a busy man recognizable all over the city, he can't find the truly damning evidence he needs on his own... which is where you come in. With Voss' direction, investigate a high-ranking Olympian and determine just how corrupt they really are. NOTE: Depending on Voss' mood, you might be planting evidence instead of just looking for it. Just so you know.
Dates available: February 7 - March 19
Sign up/limited slots: REQUIRED: Sign up under the correct quest title below with the names of your group members to receive additional information about your target's residence!
Follow-up quest: TBA
Qualifications for success/increased Temple rapport: Proof of a successful investigation can be submitted to Voss in the form of a written message or oral report delivered to an acolyte.
Tips & tricks: As few as 2 and up to 4 people per investigation group. Knowledge of subterfuge may be helpful.
RESTRICTIONS: This quest is closed to groups that have at least one member who has completed a quest for Voss successfully before. That means if you completed A Blessed Entourage or A Day in the Life in January, you and a group are welcome to sign up! Only one member of the group needs to be a repeat customer, but more in the same group is permitted!

REWARD: 2,500 silver for a successful report

Quest: Need to Know Basis
Description: The Temple library contains a number of ancient texts that have yet to be fully translated. Part of this translation problem is due to the ancient language, which is largely unknown to the current Olympians, but also because each of these texts seems to be enchanted. After a certain amount of time or attempts to manipulate the magic protecting the contents, the texts will quite literally make themselves unreadable. Frustrated, the librarians have opened their doors to the public. Under careful supervision, volunteers are able to try their hand at accessing the information contained in these documents by whatever means necessary - as long as they don’t tear anything.
Dates available: February 7 - March 19 (quest available until the documents are translated)
Sign up/limited slots: Unlimited
Follow-up quest: Successful translation will be built over time!
Qualifications for success/increased Temple rapport: Submit your method under the correct heading below to get a clue!
Tips & tricks: Linguistic know-how and magic will help. If a group takes too long, each document will literally change its text to nothing but a particular rune, written over and over across the entire page.
RESTRICTIONS: None.

REWARD: 50 silver/hr if progress is being made

Quest: Safe Haven
Description: While peace in Olympia starts to crumble, the Temples of Thesa remain stalwart... or at least, Overseer Voss remains stalwart in his refusal to sink to the levels of violence and lack of reason that the rest of the city has fallen into. Lately, reports have been coming in that citizens are going out of there way to harass and even attack those who deserted the city in recent months and have been unable to make it to other, faraway settlements for one reason or another. It is these people Voss wishes to bring back to the Temples now, to give sanctuary and keep them protected from the chaos popping up in the city proper.

For that he entreats the refugees to help bring these people home, and as a bonus, he will be providing an extra tool: a crystal, imbued with magic. If these crystal look familiar to those who've been collecting them, well, good job: you helped make this happen. The magic soaked into the crystals has made them darker in color, but they are easily recognizable as the same ones retrieved from the gathering sites. Voss' acolyte will explain that grasping the crystal tightly until it suddenly becomes warm will "adjust" the crystal to your person, after which you will be able to access its magic.

But there's something off about the crystals; despite the powers they give their user, they seem to be finicky, as if they're still in a prototype stage. Sorry about that; hope nothing too strange happens while you're facing off against aggravated citizens—or monsters!
Dates available: February 6 - March 19
Sign up/limited slots: Unlimited; sign up under the header below for details of what your crystal does, both intentionally and not so much.
Follow-up quest: TBA
Qualifications for success/increased Temple rapport: Bring back a) civilians, and b) a report of what happened if your crystal malfunctioned and Voss will be pleased.
Tips & tricks: Don't be afraid to punch thugs in the face.
RESTRICTIONS: None.

REWARD: You can come back and play with the crystal again if you want. Additionally, 900 silver.

Quest: Preaching in a Material World
Description: Overseer Voss has few vices, but one of them is his particular fondness for crystal drops found deep in the magical lakes outside Wyver. Remember that price the Wyver merchants asked for those gems? Voss will double it, even triple it for a crystal of considerable size and clarity. Gather them, bring them back, and meet with his personal appraiser to get your silver. Voss himself might come to check out the goods if they're exceptionally rare.

There are also gems of a different variety that can be mined from a cave located in the Edrathe Ruins. They look like milky quartz in all variety of colors and can be found embedded in the cave walls deep in the heart of the tunnel underground. While the surrounding land is barren and few creatures thrive here, some dangerous beasts make their winter home in this cave and do not like to be disturbed.
Dates available: Always
Sign up/limited slots: Unlimited
Follow-up quest: N/A
Qualifications for success/increased Temple rapport: The more high quality gems, the higher Voss' personal opinion gets.
Tips & tricks: Cannot emphasize enough how much he wants beautiful rare gems.
RESTRICTIONS: None.

REWARD: 300-500 silver per gem, maybe more.

REQUESTS FROM THE GILDED CAGE

Cree's tasks always appear in the less frequented areas of both cities. Perhaps you will be playing a bet on an upcoming fight, visiting a house of ill repute, or just frequenting your favorite bar when you notice strange advertisements on the back wall. They were not there before, and they will not be there when you return. The details are vague until you arrive at the location, where you will be debriefed by an emissary from the Gilded Cage. ICly, signups and report submission will be done via this individual or by scrawling your name on a list in the Gilded Cage (this interaction will be handwaved).
Quest: Blinded With Science: Take Two
Description: Deciding that a brief break-in isn't enough to support his suspicions, Cree asks that his esteemed groups revisit the Institute and see what lies on the lower floors. Under the cover of a gas leak, you will enter the laboratories to recover remaining secrets Evras' employees have shoved under the rug. However, he warns that these are much higher stakes, and you may not like what you find this time around. NOTE: Tasks will be designated to specific groups, but it is every group's overall performance that will determine the overall final outcome.
Dates available: February 7 - March 19. Sign-ups for this close on February 14th.
Sign up/limited slots: REQUIRED: Sign up under the correct quest title below with the names of your group members to receive additional information.
Follow-up quest: N/A
Qualifications for success/increased Gilded Cage rapport: Complete your group's personalized task without alerting The Institute's heightened security.
RESTRICTIONS: The quest is closed to groups that participated in Blinded With Science: Part One. At most, 2 additions or replacements from outsiders may be made to the original group, but please inform the mods in your sign up that you are taking on new crew members.

REWARD: 3,000 silver for a successful extraction

Quest: To Kill A Mocking Bird
Description: In a world of technological advancement, messenger birds may seem obsolete. However, these birds are unique in the fact they relay recorded information themselves. Varying species of birds are not only the Cage's namesake, but their eyes and ears - and now they've come to a startling halt. Follow a trail of these dead animals, and discover the culprits before every source is lost.
Dates available: February 7 - March 19
Sign up/limited slots: REQUIRED: Sign up under the correct quest title below with the names of your group members to receive additional information.
Follow-up quest: TBA
Qualifications for success/increased Gilded Cage rapport: Identify the culprits with substantial evidence, such as photo images or taking them in.
Tips & tricks: Questionable moral compass.
RESTRICTIONS: None.

REWARD: 700 silver for each culprit group brought to light.

Quest: Playing Preacher
Description: In order to recruit deserters into agents outside of Wyver's walls, the Gilded Cage must provide stronger medical supplies than what they already have. You're tasked with retrieving Volkkran items without giving away that they're to be exported. Incapacite the shamans of Volkkran and don their robes on the path to their Altars. Be warned: when posing as a shaman, you run the risk of performing their weekly rituals. One may be subject to drinking from a communal dish of dragon's blood, preach the importance strength in nature, and overseeing the compensation of the Volkkran pact.
Dates available: February 7 - March 19
Sign up/limited slots: Unlimited
Follow-up quest: TBA
Tips & tricks: Ability to bullshit is useful here. Also, a strong stomach. Drinking dragon's blood is quite the harrowing experience to an outsider.
Qualifications for success/increased Gilded Cage rapport: Deliver the supplies beyond the wall. Keeping the disguise up is advised, but not required for the reward.
RESTRICTIONS: None.

REWARD: 1,000 silver per delivery.

Quest: Bone to Pick
Description: The rituals found in the Wyver wilds have been shrouded in mystery for some time - the locals have a notion of why human remains remain pristine, but they never answer when the question is posed. Then there are the remains of proud dragons, attended to and watched over by faithful guards, known to all as something untouchable. Cree equips you with a saw, and asks that you retrieve either of them.
Dates available: Always
Sign up/limited slots: Unlimited
Follow-up quest: N/A
Qualifications for success/increased Gilded Cage rapport: Bring human or dragon remains back to the Gilded Cage. Cree will reward both.
Tips & tricks: Wyver natives watch over the remains litering the jungle routinely. Recovering them for another purpose is a crime, and those that violate it will need to be prepared to evade arrest by any means necessary.
RESTRICTIONS: None.

REWARD: 500 silver for nondescript bones in the jungle AND/OR 1,500 silver for substantial pieces of dragon bone. Additionally, characters may ask what purpose they serve at the end of the mission.

We will be doing the bonus round! Down with the burgeosis, down with Sloan! I'm gonna abuse bold fonts here pardon me.

To sneak in we will again be taking advantage of Sandra's psychic capabilities to sense when there's gaps in guard coverage/when to duck behind something as people pass by/what have you. If necessary Sandra will also pull Richie into the Crystal again if they are at risk of being caught and there's no where for an adult man to hide or run to. If there are people around Sandra may try using her telepathy to skim their minds for useful information.

Additionally, we will be checking the bedroom (specifically the mattress and under the bed but the rest of the room will be checked thoroughly as well), the "home practice" room, and the attic (rafters, loose floorboards, any storage containers or boxes). In general they will be checking structural oddities or cubbies, desks, books and bookcases, and picture frames.

If it's worthwhile, Richie might play at being a random passerby and just ask one of the people waiting outside what they're coming for. Nothing leading, just a simple "hey buddy where's the booboo", maybe play at being interested in seeking treatment himself. He would give an alias for this if asked, and possibly use a false voice for good measure.

Here is the started thread!

Upon entering the house, they will first investigate the bedroom, taking into account the strangely placed medical tools and photographs under the mattress, as well as the suspiciously stained clothes in the wardrobe. Under the bed, they locate the box and inspect its contents. Investigating the desk, they will leave evidence against Sloan stashed in with the papers that appear to be hers in the drawer containing the most paperwork.

They then move to the home practice room, taking note of the stains and how screwed up this place looks in general, man. They'll check out the certificates and other framed items of interest, including the picture of the couple. Not a lot of time will probably be wasted in this creepy place, but they will find the safe, and recalling the note in the box underneath the bed, they will try the date from the couple picture on the combination lock.

Whatever they find there, they'll continue their investigation upwards into the attic, and be incredibly unnerved. So unnerved that they will fail to find any sort of key for that mysterious lockbox and leave promptly, hurrying to the same window from whence they came.

To Voss, they will submit the photographs of bodies posed during surgery, because of their morbid nature combined with their suspicious placement beneath the mattress, as well as the dates indicating this behavior has persisted for several years. They will also submit the matching stains throughout the "home practice" room and the clothes in the wardrobe, because it denotes a lack of hygiene and professionalism befitting a licensed practitioner. The certificate will be brought into question, in case Olympia has an official record that it can be cross referenced with. The mannequins and especially the meat hooks will be addressed, while the mannequins could possibly be forgiven, there's a freakish number of them, and frankly there is no excuse for a doctor to keep multiple meat hooks in storage. Depending on if the safe in the "home practice" room opens, they might submit that too, unless it seems largely superfluous.
