❪ APRIL 2018 UNAFFILIATED QUESTS ❫

Amidst the two biggest factions trying to influence the future of El Nysa, other groups move in the shadows or walk in the light. In Olympia, Overseer Voss of the Temples of Thesa pursues his own agenda to preserve the light of the Goddess, while in Wyver, the mysterious gang leader Cree seeks to expose the supposed treachery of the people in power.

Can you really believe everything you hear?

QUICK N' DIRTY FAQ
How do I complete a quest? For the most part, all you need to do is a link to your (AC length) quest thread under the appropriate heading! Some quests require signing up beforehand in order to receive additional information, so read the requirements carefully.

Can I sign up for more than one quest at once? Yes and no! If a quest has limited slots, please refrain from signing up for more than one at a time in order to give everyone an even chance. Otherwise, you may thread all the quests you want. Cree and Voss' quests are separate, so signing up for one from each at the same time is fine.

What makes my quest complete? In order to obtain the silver reward and any other information for each quest, you must submit an AC length thread under the correct quest heading in the comments below. If you sign up for a quest and fail to submit a thread, your characters will not reap the rewards of the quest OR raise their rapport with Cree or Voss, respectively.

For a group thread only, AC length is considered 10+ total comments as a whole, rather than 5 per character. If a character is not actively participating, they will not be considered for the reward!

Do I get REP from this? Not exactly! Cree and Voss are unaffiliated with Olympia or Wyver, faction-wise, so helping them will not get you Olympia or Wyver REP. It will get you custom benefits from either/both of them, however. Reaching 10 REP with either faction does not impact your ability to take quests.

When do quests have to be "done"? Typically, a quest that is time-sensitive will be "due" - meaning an AC length thread must be submitted, not necessarily a complete log - by the end of the given availability period. This is usually the end of the month! However, if you sign up for a quest with a time-sensitive due date very close to said date, we'll be flexible and let you know when to get a response in. Quests that do not have a time-sensitive due date are obviously not "due" within a given time frame.

Can I play the other side of these criminal quests? Will I get anything out of it? Yes and sort of! If you would like your character to discover these quests and oppose what is taking place, for example: a member of the guard stopping a smuggling job, you may. However, they will not receive positive recognition from the NPCs putting out these quests or special recognition from others, as it is already expected of them or just another regular occurrence of vigilante justice. We encourage plotting with quest takers solely for the experience of threading that interaction out.

Please list all involved characters under the sign ups thread so we know what's going on! If you have any questions about what kind of opposing actions can be taken, ask us! Keep in mind that these oppositions would follow the same rule as quest success: if there is not an AC length thread submitted, we cannot give you a specific result.

REQUESTS FROM THE TEMPLES OF THESA

Overseer Voss entreats Olympian citizens and all refugees to aid him in the various tasks of interest to the Temples. He announces his tasks both in written form, found around the city, and over the speaker in the Temples. ICly, signups and report submission will be done in an office on the first floor of the Temples (this interaction will be handwaved).
Quest: Pillars of the Community
Description: The Temples have been quiet since the outbreak of rioting weeks ago. Suffering minimal damage, the building itself has undergone repairs and reopened to the public already. In an effort to boost community morale, Overseer Voss has put out a call for teachers, but not just the kind who teach in formal schools; if you have a skill, whether it be combat, magic, or something more rustic like carpentry or sewing, Voss requests your presence as a volunteer teacher at the Temples in the coming months. The task is simple: teach others your skill and share your passion. You will be provided with class space, either indoors or in the Temple gardens (your choice), and you may go as in-depth as you like!

Voss is also offering a second go at the Temples's magic, colored crystals as seen in the Safe Haven quest. Specifically, his personal interest in the refugees has led him to extend the generous of offer of allowing those who worked with the crystals previously to teach other refugees how to use them, and what each color crystal does. The different powers and possible problems with each crystal can be found HERE. An acolyte, when distributing the crystals, may comment that they seem richer in color now... and you may notice that their magic is much stronger on Temple grounds. Try not to make a mess!
Dates available: April 14th - May 16th
Sign up/limited slots: Unlimited. However, if you are considering doing this quest multiple times, please consider combining your groups.
Follow-up quest: None at this time.
Qualifications for success/increased Temple rapport: Submit your qualifying thread to be considered successful. As long as there isn't any property damage, you're good. (If you want your character to do poorly, they simply won't be asked to teach that lesson again, but they'll still get paid for their time.)
Tips & tricks: This one's up to you! You may enlist the aid of Temple acolytes for use as demonstration dummies or assistants, if you want; many of them will be eager to volunteer and learn something new and "exotic." You may also advertise around town for your personal class, as the call Voss puts out is only for people to teach, without specifics.
RESTRICTIONS: None for player-designed classes, crystal classes can be attended by anyone but taught only by those who completed Safe Haven.

REWARD: 50 silver per class; you may assume all teacher volunteers are welcomed back to the Temples for additional classes, if you want to come again! Those who complete a crystal class and submit a qualifying thread will be allowed to take home one crystal of their choice.

Quest: Actual Pillars, Outside the Community
Description: In the Edrathe Ruins, where Overseer Voss has suggested crystals be harvested from a certain cave, there are... pillars. Stone pillars surrounding a stone circle, perhaps for ceremony of some kind, perhaps for something else; time has chipped away at these structures, but the size and might of the pillars in their greatest days can still be felt from what pieces remain. And the stones are carved with writing and pictures, some that look like they tell a story, some that seem completely unrelated to the rest around them. The stone circle on the ground is severely worn, but the faint remains of a series of carved circles rippling out from its center point can still be seen, and each circle contains a different series of etched lettering—or what you think is lettering, anyway. The language is too old to understand.

The Edrathe Ruins are spoken of as a place once dragon-blessed, where Mother Thesa was honored highly, and which then fell to abandonment and disrepair. Overseer Voss, after the progress made in translating some of the Temples' old library, now has a vested interest in making sense of Edrathe's pillars and stone circle, and has asked for intrepid volunteers to make the long journey out there and bring back to him pictures (photographs, drawings, not picky) of the ruins for this purpose. It's a long haul, but it never hurts to know more about the people who used to populate these lands.

BONUS ROUND: Rumors about the Edrathe Ruins speak of riches beyond your wildest dreams, resting deep within a recently discovered cave system naturally occurring underground. Under the assumption that something relevant to the Temples might be stashed down there as well, if it exists, Voss has offered a second reward to anyone who can find something useful down there. The caves are deep, icy cold, and dangerous—you'll need to take a couple light sources and some shoes that don't slip, for sure. But hidden in the caves there is indeed a cache of hidden goods, mostly various Olympian-made weapons with a minor magical enchantment*. The rest of the cache is broken pieces of technology, clearly from Thesa Station and not any natives on the planet. These pieces of technology are old, damaged, salvaged—but the care with which they've been stored suggests whoever put them there knows what they are and how they work. Probably shouldn't give those to the native Temples...

*This can be handwaved; nothing destructive enough to destroy a building, but elemental enchantments or something like "slows down a struck opponent" are fine!
Dates available: April 14th - May 16th
Sign up/limited slots: Unlimited
Follow-up quest: TBA
Qualifications for success/increased Temple rapport: Submit your qualifying thread to be recognized by the Temples. If you take something from the secret cache, please report it in your thread submission.
Tips & tricks: If you completed Need To Know Basis, you may see some similarities to the library documents in the words carved into the ruins. However, they seem a touch older, suggesting the Nysan language has evolved since these were carved.
RESTRICTIONS: None.

REWARD: 500 silver for a good report, more if you can make progress in the labyrinth.

Quest: Need to Know Basis
Description: The Temple library contains a number of ancient texts that have yet to be fully translated. Part of this translation problem is due to the ancient language, which is largely unknown to the current Olympians, but also because each of these texts seems to be enchanted. After a certain amount of time or attempts to manipulate the magic protecting the contents, the texts will quite literally make themselves unreadable. Frustrated, the librarians have opened their doors to the public. Under careful supervision, volunteers are able to try their hand at accessing the information contained in these documents by whatever means necessary - as long as they don’t tear anything.
Dates available: Quest available until the documents are translated
Sign up/limited slots: Unlimited
Follow-up quest: Successful translation will be built over time!
Qualifications for success/increased Temple rapport: Submit your method under the correct heading below to get a clue!
Tips & tricks: Linguistic know-how and magic will help. If a group takes too long, each document will literally change its text to nothing but a particular rune, written over and over across the entire page.
RESTRICTIONS: None.

REWARD: 50 silver/hr if progress is being made

Quest: Preaching in a Material World
Description: Overseer Voss has few vices, but one of them is his particular fondness for crystal drops found deep in the magical lakes outside Wyver. Remember that price the Wyver merchants asked for those gems? Voss will double it, even triple it for a crystal of considerable size and clarity. Gather them, bring them back, and meet with his personal appraiser to get your silver. Voss himself might come to check out the goods if they're exceptionally rare.

There are also gems of a different variety that can be mined from a cave located in the Edrathe Ruins. They look like milky quartz in all variety of colors and can be found embedded in the cave walls deep in the heart of the tunnel underground. While the surrounding land is barren and few creatures thrive here, some dangerous beasts make their winter home in this cave and do not like to be disturbed.
Dates available: Always
Sign up/limited slots: Unlimited
Follow-up quest: N/A
Qualifications for success/increased Temple rapport: The more high quality gems, the higher Voss' personal opinion gets.
Tips & tricks: Cannot emphasize enough how much he wants beautiful rare gems.
RESTRICTIONS: None.

REWARD: 300-500 silver per gem, maybe more.

REQUESTS FROM THE GILDED CAGE

Cree's tasks always appear in the less frequented areas of both cities. Perhaps you will be playing a bet on an upcoming fight, visiting a house of ill repute, or just frequenting your favorite bar when you notice strange advertisements on the back wall. They were not there before, and they will not be there when you return. The details are vague until you arrive at the location, where you will be debriefed by an emissary from the Gilded Cage. ICly, signups and report submission will be done via this individual or by scrawling your name on a list in the Gilded Cage (this interaction will be handwaved).
Quest: Blinded With Science: Take Two (Take Two!)
Description: Deciding that the pioneers of "science" deserve to start from the ground up for their actions, Cree asks that his esteemed patrons revisit the Institute and see what lies on the lower floors. Under the cover of a gas leak, you will enter the laboratories to recover remaining secrets Evras' employees have shoved under the rug, and ensure they do not work again. However, he warns that these are much higher stakes, and you may not like what you find this time around. NOTE: Tasks will be designated to specific groups, but it is every group's overall performance that will determine the overall final outcome.
Dates available: April 14th - May 16th. SIGN UPS CLOSE APRIL 20th (INFO WILL BE GIVEN THAT DAY).
Sign up/limited slots: REQUIRED: Sign up under the correct quest title below with the names of your group members to receive additional information.
Follow-up quest: N/A
Qualifications for success/increased Gilded Cage rapport: Complete your group's personalized task without alerting The Institute's heightened security.
RESTRICTIONS: The quest is closed to groups that participated in Blinded With Science: Part One. At most, 2 additions or replacements from outsiders may be made to the original group, but please inform the mods in your sign up that you are taking on new crew members. Characters that make sense to be involved in the break-in (employees, former hostages in Group 1, tourists) may report their involvement with group members for a reaction, but they will not be rewarded or designated a task unless with a group.

REWARD: 5,000 silver for a successful task completion

Quest: Rockin' Robin Robbin'
Description: The sweet song of many feathered friends have been snuffed out for far too long. In the wake of a recent murder spree murdering the underground's messenger network, Cree has requested volunteers to train a new batch. Ranging from finches to hawks, you are tasked with sending specially prepared birds to retrieve letters, jewels, or any item the trainer specifies. There is a tracker on their legs that connects to app on your phone. However, they are, well, bird-brained, and they go off the projected path and will bring back a shoelace, a dead rat, or the morning paper rather than what it is you desire. Or, if you aren't careful, they may be eaten by the local wildlife. Endure days worth of failures, or give up and face judgement.
Dates available: APRIL 14th - May 16th.
Sign up/limited slots: Unlimited.
Follow-up quest: TBA
Qualifications for success/increased Gilded Cage rapport: Successfully train a bird of any size to retrieve any item you ask. Bonus for those that get more creative and bring secrets of their friends or gossip from the nobility.
RESTRICTIONS: None.

REWARD: 500 silver for each bird trained.

Quest: You Know How the Caged Bird Sings
Description: To have successful organized crime is to have little competition. Though The Gilded Cage maintains a reputation for being the only establishment of note in recent years, tensions have brought out a desire for looting and violence for a variety of different motivations. Cree asks that you rattle the bones of potential gangs and radical groups with—with bones?

The Gilded Cage is distributing magic-imbued pendants made from the remains of dragon bones in a more ancient, altered version of the Volkkran Pact. Drawing from the abilities of Cree himself, those in possession of the pendants will possess a new skillset... at the cost of performing his tasks. Use them to rig the fights of Flona Cove in your favor, stop the raiding of shopkeeps under the Cage's protection, or even raid a cache of gems from the Temple acolytes. If it snuffs out any ambitions of violence, you both win, right? The different powers and possible problems with each pendant can be found HERE.

But in light of the recent kidnappings, Cree offers what the guard does not: revenge. You may use his tools to track down those who have wronged you, those who have gotten away, if you offer him something in return. Will you seek out those that have tormented your fellow refugees and deliver a taste of their own medicine.
Dates available: April 14th - May 16th.
Sign up/limited slots: Unlimited
Follow-up quest: N/A
Tips & tricks: The actions taken with the pendants do not necessarily have to be shady in nature, if your character has the creativity to find a loophole. The Gilded Cage thrives off of information—if you present something of value, Cree will allow you to use the pendants for your own purposes.
RESTRICTIONS: None.

REWARD: 1,000 silver per delivery of information, money, or hostage in.

Quest: Bone to Pick
Description: The rituals found in the Wyver wilds have been shrouded in mystery for some time - the locals have a notion of why human remains remain pristine, but they never answer when the question is posed. Then there are the remains of proud dragons, attended to and watched over by faithful guards, known to all as something untouchable. Cree equips you with a saw, and asks that you retrieve either of them.
Dates available: Always
Sign up/limited slots: Unlimited
Follow-up quest: N/A
Qualifications for success/increased Gilded Cage rapport: Bring human or dragon remains back to the Gilded Cage. Cree will reward both.
Tips & tricks: Wyver natives watch over the remains litering the jungle routinely. Recovering them for any purpose is a crime, and those that violate it will need to be prepared to evade arrest by any means necessary.
RESTRICTIONS: None.

REWARD: 500 silver for nondescript bones in the jungle AND/OR 1,500 silver for substantial pieces of dragon bone.

Caged Birds question - would there be a chance to capture one of the kidnappers for interrogation (the information would be "why were they specifically targeted" and "who put you up to this" and "what were you trying to accomplish with this" and so on) before eventually to turn them in to face proper justice?

I would assume asking them to write it down or otherwise indicate would lead to basically the same sort of inability to express the answer as to whom set them up to this.
