Rocket and Ren will be tasked with retrieving an experimental hand-held laser. It is described as looking like a standard laser pointer with exposed circuitry around the handle, which occasionally gave off sparks and would, one time out of each ten attempts, fire off a laser blast instead of a simple beam of light.
Nurray theorizes that, as it gave off sparks, it may have something to do with the fires that have broken out among the sparse trees near the southern border. When investigating, they will encounter someone dressed like a sailor who is unconscious among the flames; he still has some of his supplies, but when he wakes, he will mention seeing a silhouette that looked like Magda's right before he passed out and then realize that his compass and astrolabe have gone missing.
The laser will be found at the center of the fires. How the characters notice it and what they do to retrieve it is up to you; feel free to assume that any reasonable requests made for equipment to assist in retrieving it will be granted.
