SEPTEMBER 2018 QUESTS

QUICK N' DIRTY FAQ
How do I complete a quest? For the most part, all you need to do is a link to your (AC length) quest thread under the appropriate heading! As this quests are now the primary way to acquire REP, you will not need to submit elsewhere!

Can I sign up for more than one quest at once? Yep, that's fine!

What makes my quest complete? In order to obtain the information and rewards for each quest, you must submit an AC length thread under the correct quest heading in the comments below. If you sign up for a quest and fail to submit a thread, your characters will not reap the rewards of the quest.

For a group thread only, AC length is considered 10+ total comments as a whole, rather than 5 per character. If a character is not actively participating, they will not be considered for the reward!

When do quests have to be "done"? Typically, a quest that is time-sensitive will be "due" - meaning an AC length thread must be submitted, not necessarily a complete log - by the end of the given availability period. This is usually the end of the month! However, if you sign up for a quest with a time-sensitive due date very close to said date, we'll be flexible and let you know when to get a response in. Quests that do not have a time-sensitive due date are obviously not "due" within a given time frame.

Can I play the other side of these criminal quests? Will I get anything out of it? Yes and sort of! If you would like your character to discover these quests and oppose what is taking place, for example: a member of the guard stopping a smuggling job, you may. However, they will not receive positive recognition from the NPCs putting out these quests or special recognition from others, as it is already expected of them or just another regular occurrence of vigilante justice. We encourage plotting with quest takers solely for the experience of threading that interaction out.

Please list all involved characters under the sign ups thread so we know what's going on! If you have any questions about what kind of opposing actions can be taken, ask us! Keep in mind that these oppositions would follow the same rule as quest success: if there is not an AC length thread submitted, we cannot give you a specific result.

SEPTEMBER 2018 QUESTS
OLYMPIA: Shades Lighter
CLIENT: Koralle
Although a place like Shades Darker is never lacking in customers, it does find itself lacking in supplies as of late. The general unrest and chaos have disrupted Koralle’s suppliers, leaving the famed brothel lacking in all sorts of goods, from the more mundane to the perilously exotic. The brothel will need people to pick up the slack, ranging from simply retrieving wine from the vineyards outside the city, to... acquiring goods that only special backroom cliente get access to. The kinds of things you don’t want the Guard to catch you with: dangerous aphrodisiacs, rare delicacies, illegal drugs. The less her transporters know, the better. Of course, moving the riskier supplies brings with it the promise of higher compensation, but if you’re caught smuggling, don’t expect anyone to intercede on your behalf.

▸ 100 silver for the smuggling

OLYMPIA: Reformation of the Guards
CLIENT: Ashti
Recent events have left the morale of Olympia in shambles, with faith in the Royal Guard at an all time low. Realizing something must be done to restore the people's confidence in their protectors, they have begun to organize an event aimed at making people forget the past and move forward: a majestic tourney. All are invited to participate, members of the Royal Guard and outsiders alike, to show off their skills in a wide range of events. From jousting to archery contests, melee to one-on-one duels, one can find almost any form of martial competition here. Those who participate will be paid modestly for their time, though those who excel will earn themselves more impressive prizes. The tourney will span an entire week, and of course spectators are welcome to observe at no cost.

REWARD:
▸ Unique Olympia item

WYVER: Lullaby for the Dragons
CLIENT: Thali
The rage and subsequent binding of Ysverai has left the smaller dragons native to Wyver in a violent, unsettled state. They roam the city and the countryside in search of something, though they never seem to find what it is, and in their wake they leave injured people and damaged buildings. Thali would like to bring them back to the Fields of the Exalted where they can’t hurt themselves or others. She recommends venturing into the Undergrowth to fetch the blossom of a rare plant that the locals call Dragonflower. The petals can be boiled down to make a perfume that will catch a dragon’s attention and cause them to follow the scent. The catch is that the flower is very difficult to find, and has only been spotted in the deepest, darkest parts of the Undergrowth, protected by dangerous creatures...

SIGN-UPS? No
QUEST DUE: Sunday 10/21 11:59pm EST
REWARD:
▸ 100 silver per person for a Dragonflower blossom
▸ +1 Wyver REP for returning a dragon to the Fields of the Exalted

WYVER: Rise of the Ryders
CLIENT: Thali
With Rasyc and his Fangs gone, the Knightyders Order is Wyver’s only organized defense force. Though the Fangs acted in secrecy, their fall from grace has left a power vacuum among Wyver’s criminal underbelly. Some of the former Fangs have gone into business for themselves, using their old information and connections to become the very corruption they once existed to fight against. Though the Knightryders were once focused only on guarding Wyver from outside threats, that oversight contributed to the theft of Ysverai’s heart. The Ryders have begun recruiting more vigorously, even enlisting the aid of outsiders to help crack down on crime in Wyver. Some are against the change, as Wyvers have always believed more in freedom and independence, but there are some things only an organized peacekeeping force can accomplish. For now, the Ryders place a premium on finding and catching Rasyc’s old followers, wherever they may have scurried off too, as well as solve recent strings to criminal activity in Wyver.

▸ 100 silver per person for cleaning up the streets
▸ Unique Wyver item
▸ +1 Wyver REP

NADRIL: Tundra Life

In order to take better stock of what resources are available in which parts of the isles, Nurray would like the refugees' assistance in compiling an encyclopedia of the flora and fauna within Nadril... after all, it's long overdue.

QUEST DUE: Sunday 10/21 11:59pm EST
REWARD:
▸ 50 silver per entry
▸ +1 Nadril REP

NADRIL: Magda's Disappearance
CLIENT: Nurray
Magda has vanished, leaving behind one last message on the computer screen in his room: “If you’re reading this, you have made the monumentally unsound decision to cooperate with the Natha, and I have taken my leave of you and disposed of their technology. Do not look for me.” However, he has taken some of the more usable tech that was salvaged from the ship a few months back with him, and even if he won’t return, Nurray wants it back. There are five pieces of technology that he has stolen: a long-range transmitter, a power core, a translation device, a magnetic field generator, and an experimental hand-held laser. Nurray requests that you investigate an area where he may have hidden them and bring them back - perhaps what is found there will also provide some insight as to his disappearance.

SIGN-UPS? Yes, five slots
QUEST DUE: Sunday 10/21 11:59pm EST
REWARD:
▸ Unique Nadril tem
▸ +1 Nadril REP

The Gilded Cage: Protect Your Interests
CLIENT: Cree
Daily routine has returned to life in Olympia - people mill about the rebuilt streets, a gentle din of chatter replacing cries for help. On the surface, the city has returned to normal, finally settled into peaceful days. However, the foundations of the great nation were not so easily repaired. Taking advantage of the rampant desperation that gripped the city, crime circles big and small have carved themselves a place in the rubble. These derelicts aren’t the only opportunists. Cree’s return is a jovial one; he knows the underground better than anyone else, and he intends to secure his domain. Rather than uproot and replace these petty thieves, the surge in crime will serve as a perfect opportunity to expand his web of influence. Where the Guard fails to protect, members of the Gilded Cage will stand against these fragmented groups… for a fee.

SIGN-UPS? Yes
QUEST DUE: Sunday 10/21 11:59pm EST
REWARD:
▸ Unique item

The Gilded Cage: Celestial Knowledge
CLIENT: Cree
Although not at the epicenter of the shock resounding from the revelation of the Natha’s true nature, Cree isn’t one to pass up an opportunity. Neither humbled nor disillusioned, he simply sees the exposition as an opportunity. The Natha’s technology is strange, its workings not well understood, an even playing field for anyone who gets their hands on it. Evras, without a doubt, has his eye on this new technology, among countless others. Timing, as well as a certain sense of ruthlessness, is instrumental in the race to secure the true gifts from Thesa. Take what you can, either from Nadril, or the station itself, and bring it back to the Gilded Cage. Just take care not to get caught, by natives to the icy town or fellow refugees.

SIGN-UPS? No
QUEST DUE: Sunday 10/21 11:59pm EST
REWARD:
▸ 200 silver for every major part brought back

mollymocked: (⚔ stay in the cage)

[personal profile] mollymocked 2018-09-22 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Type of submission: Flora
Location found: Caves
Name of specimen: Lamb's Bite
Picture(s): Picture
Rarity: Common
Brief description: A small plant that comes in purple and blue varieties, the sack in the middle is full of sweet nectar that is commonly used in teas with the purple flowers producing a spicier tea good for curing colds and warding off the cold and the blue flowers producing a more calming tea for relaxing. Their name comes from the fact that if one isn't careful of how they're harvesting them, the curved leaves above the sack will tighten around the hand of the person grabbing it- utterly harmless, though irritating and struggling to pry it off will often damage the nectar sack and make it useless. It is recommended that people use special tools to dig the plant out, rather than simply grabbing it.
beatupgrass: (✘ on some sort of penninsular ledge)

Type of submission: Fauna
Location found: Fishing District
Name of specimen: Puldrigg
Picture(s): Picture
Rarity: Uncommon
Temperament: Mischievous, though mostly harmless.
Brief description: Puldriggs are small reptilian creatures that vaguely resemble tiny dragons made of water. Their unusual scales allow them to blend into the icy waters where they have been known to swim underneath the ice and chase fish away or sabotage the lines of fishermen for fun. They have also been known to lead people out onto thin ice so that they'll fall in the water. They're impossible to catch due to their cleverness and their ability to become almost invisible in water and ice due to their natural camouflage, though there are legends that say if you catch one, you'll be lucky for the rest of your life. The only people who have ever caught them have said they turned to water in their hands, which could be true or could just be something fisherman say to keep from having to prove their story true.

Type of submission: Fauna
Location found: Caves
Name of specimen: Deorain
Picture(s): Picture
Rarity: Very Rare
Temperament: Shy, flees when it senses other creatures, social with fellow kind
Brief description: The growth of this creature appears to be no greater than a foot long. Based on the nature of the creature, it seems that it is almost impossible to find one generally since they flee at the sight or sound of any other creature around them. Often found near the cave lake, they appear to live in holes in the ceiling of the cave, departing there or into the water when spotted. This creature does not seem to have any special ability save for flight and being able to see in the darkness due to the enormous eyes that it has. Presently it is unclear how large the groups of this creature are due to the tendency to hide the second it has been spotted. Because of this, it is unlikely one can catch one but it sure to fetch an extremely high price for the beautifully soft fur or potential pet aspect. Unknown if it is edible. Aside from this, much about the creature is still unknown since one cannot get close enough to properly observe without the creature running away to hide.

Type of submission: Flora
Location found: Fishing District
Name of specimen: Sea Song
Picture(s): Picture
Rarity: Uncommon
Brief description: A small and delicate, almost ice-like flower that mostly grows in clusters close to water. They make an unusual sound when moving in wind that almost sounds like singing (or even sea sirens, to those whose worlds had such things), hence the name, which makes them an attractive gift and thus worth a respectable price. However, they damage easily, and thus need to be picked with considerable care. Specimens not fit for decorative use can be dried and used for their scent, which is sharp and cooling and useful for clearing out congestion.

Type of submission: Fauna
Location found: Fishing District
Name of specimen: Lupire
Picture(s): Picture
Rarity: Rare
Temperament: Curious but cautious. They will more readily approach individuals than people traveling in large groups.
Brief description: The Lupire is a small wolf like creature that is pure white with the exception of its five red eyes. The creature wanders the fishing district either alone or in pairs where they lie in wait for unsuspecting individuals. The Lupire has the ability to hypnotize a person who makes prolonged eye contact with it. It usually uses its hypnotic gaze to trick unsuspecting ice fishers into giving up their catches. Curiously, it is only known to consume the blood of what it scavenges in this manner. Its hypnotic abilities are versatile, however, and may lead to other curious effects for those unfortunate enough to encounter one. The effects typically wear off within an hour.
stuns: ( art by disasterscenario ) (002.)

Type of submission: Flora
Location found: Caves
Name of specimen: Awful Don't Eat It Pluto's Kiss
Picture(s): Picture
Rarity: Rare
Temperament: N/A
Brief description: Grows in the core of some of the coldest caves in Nadril in clusters ranging from 3 to 20. The smallest are the size of a grape and the largest are peach-sized. At first they appear to be globes of fragile ice, but upon being picked are malleable to the touch, almost jelly-like in substance. They smell irresistible and surprisingly like lychee fruit. They also taste like it (rosy, sweet, like a juicy grape) with an aftertaste similar to that of Bengay. When ingested it pops almost instantly and releases a substance that is a) incapable of being spat out, b) turns the interior of one's entire mouth blue, and c) creates a warming sensation throughout the entire body that makes it possible to brave temperatures otherwise impossible to survive (it also makes skin water repellent. If you wanted to go ice diving naked, now's your chance.) It is rare to find and cannot be taken out of the caves as they are environmentally sensitive.

Type of submission: Fauna
Location found: In the outskirts/cliffs in the surrounding areas of the city itself, most likely found on the way between Nadril and the Outer Tower
Name of specimen: Pepsi Fire & Ice Ice-Igneous
Picture(s): Picture
Rarity: Rare
Temperament: It is a solitary creature that would rather not be bothered. If someone gets too close, it will see that as a threat and react in a hostile way. Due to its jagged edges and sharp claws, it's considered extremely dangerous and any local would advise to steer clear.
Brief description: The Ice-Igneous is the ice version of another type of lava creature (the regular Igneous) that's a part of El Nysa's legend and history. The myth is that a creature made of pure lava was dropped into an icy ravine, and this was a result: a hard, icy exterior that hides blazing hot lava within. Anyone who is brave enough could attempt to capture the creature and melt it down. If the lava inside of it can be successfully collected, it will fetch an extremely high price, as the distilled lava can be used for many of Nadril's indoor heating technologies. Given the rarity of the beast itself and the difficulty in actually collecting the lava, this is not recommended, and some of the people of Nadril frown upon it, not wanting people to hunt down a rare and arguably beautiful creature for the sake of profit.

Type of submission: Flora
Location found: Caves
Name of specimen: Tongue Blossom
Picture(s): Picture
Rarity: Common
Brief description: A small flowering vine that grows on the walls of the caves, whose purple flowers are edible, though very bitter if eaten raw. The flowers are not mature until their red tongue-like stamens have emerged (hence the name), otherwise eating them will cause severe intestinal distress. Harvesting its flowers requires gloves, as the leaves of the plant will likely cause mild blisters or hives. They may seem more trouble than they are worth, but these purple flowers are in fact highly nutritious and there is not a native of Nadril who does not have their own family recipe for these odd little plants.

Type of submission: Flora
Location found: Caves
Name of specimen: Ublebore
Picture(s): Picture
Rarity: Common
Brief description: Found in clusters along walls and ceilings of caves, this plant creates pods filled with fresh water. Fauna that don't linger near pockets of water can be found biting open these pods to drink from them. The water is safe to consume and does not contain any toxins. Very profitable for anyone wanting to stock up on safe drinking water since this plant appears to easily grow in a variety of locations and reproduces pods of water every few days.
